For wacky hair day I had hair that was all over the place and looked like Dennis the mennis. My hair was really stiff. My hair was green red and it was really wacky. I felt really, really cool because I didn't have to wear a hat. Other people looked really wacky too. My Mum said I looked Dennis the Mennis because she used to watch it. I died my hair yellow like last year. This year had sparkcels and yellow died. I got the idear from my mum and dad becouse my brother went wild with his hair that day so I did the same thing. I for got I had wacky hair and I ackserdently on my hat and it was yellow after that.

Kids Keep Safe-First Class in the South island

On Thursday we went to a programe called Kids Keep Safe. First we saw a pretend tramp try to look like a woman putting on make-up. Then Jane's sister came up and told us about how to say "NO!" and what to do after you say "NO!". This what you have to do after you say "NO!":Say "NO!". Run if that person trys to grab you. Yell or call for help as loud as you can. Try to wriggle free and put your hands out in front of you. Then once your free go and tell someone you trust about what just happend. They also said that we were the first class in the south island that were seeing this programe. We also learnt this rap that goes like this. "It's cool to keep safe 'cause my body is mine, I'll protect each part and I'll be just fine", boom boom you bang your fists with a friend at school or home and we all got a necklace with cards to keep safe. Our Blogging Rules

We have rules for our blog, we are writing them here so people know our rules.
We looked at Room 9's rules to help us.

We had to talk a lot about our rules because we didn't all agree.
OUR RULES
  • We don't want anyone to know any personal things about us so we won't put our last names, our e-mail address or phone number or address.
  • We will use polite and kind words on our blog.
  • We will only put nice photos on our blog, we can take photos from a distance, take photos side on or only take the photo of half of a persons face.
  • We have to ask permission to put someones photo on our blog.

NO PHOTOS FOR ROOM8

We do not want photos on our blog. We don't want to be found because they might hurt us. People could print our photos in a wrong way. We think we should not have our photos on our blog. By SarahA, Brittany, Louis, Brady

NO PHOTOS ON ROOM 8`S BLOG!

We should not have peoples photos on our blog. Mean people could track you down,
follow you or trick you. They could also bully you because thay may disagree. Uneccesary people may be jealous and rob you. we already know that we cannot put any details such as last names or phone numbers. People could kidnap or in other words take us. Our opinion is that we should not have our photos on the blog.by Grace, Hamish, Chrystal, Sam

We need photos !!!

Our opinion is we definately want photes on our blog. We dont want to look silly because we might look weird side on. We could get famous. We want our relatives to see us. When people all over the world see our blog we want to make an inpresion. That is why we think we should have our photos on our blog.

By Max Jamie Finlay and Sarah1.

Maybe photos

Our group thinks we can put photos on our blog but no details on them.
So relatives over seas can see what we look like.
Friends that go to another school can see them.
Some people might like you and want to be your friend.
Somebody might want to track you down so we don't put any details.
Some people might want to do something special for you and want to know who they are doing it for.
Someone might need you for something and want to check if you're the right person.
This is why we have to be careful with our photos.
By Lachlan, Georgia, Kyle, Martina.

No pictures for room8!

Our opinion is we should not have our photo on the blog.
Someone could print our photos off and identify us.
They could print our photo off and make silly faces.
Someone could kidnap the person on the blog.
The person on the blog could over react.
Someone could follow us home and rob our house.
They could hurt you with something sharp.
This is why we don't wont our photos on the blog. nic sam paris.

Occasional Pictures on our blog

We think that we should occasionaly have pictures on our blog. This is important because in our opinion people could print out our really good face on photos. They might try to burgle us. Or even worse try to hurt us.We should only have side on, half of or far distances for our photos. We also think we should only put our photos on an angle so people can't see us properly. We also think that we shouldn't write things and details about ourselves like our phone number and full name which we also know is dangerous. By Stella, Mai, Toby and Keita.

How much water we have in the world

We got 20 litres of water and tipped it into buckets and pretended that it was all the water

in the world. Most of it was sea water, second to last was ice in Antarctica and deep underground, last was drinking water - out of 2 big buckets of water only 3 teaspons of that water is drinkable.
97.5% of our water is in the oceans and seas.2% of our water is in the ice and deep underground.Only 0.5% of our water is drinkable.

Water is precious, especially drinking water and we have to look after it and use it wisely.

Our video about amazing dykes.

The amazing dyke

In Frisia, the north west of Germany storm tides appear every two to three years and can kill up to 50000 people and destroy houses and landscape. To protect themselves the Frisians build little hills and on these they build their houses. Later they build a big dyke all along the coastline. One big storm came 1362 and the flood destroyed the dyke in 21 places and 50000 people died.
(A dyke is a big dam and it is 9 meters or higher)

On the two pictures you can see a sluice. It is a special gate that only let the river out and not the sea in.

Rubbish

Today our class room went to a rubbish festival with Sarah from Nelson City Council. She told us not to litter the school. we should put our rubbish in the bin. If it's paper try to reuse it, then recycle. There were apples, sandwiches, bars, raisens, bananas and chippies thrown out. You can take it home if you don't like it or put it in the compost. Try and not use gladwrap because it's hard to unwrap and you can't recycle it. We are going to try and not use gladwrap or wrappers next Monday (but that's a holiday so we'll try on Friday.)

Too Much Rubbish

We have just been to an assembly with a day's worth of rubbish in it. You can compost paper, food and cardboard. It was so stinky. Unfourtunately, people havent found a way to recycle plastic yet. We have three or two big rubbish bins and three or two big recycle bins. We had a challenge to not have plastic in our lunchbox on Mondays.

More Writing

A story cline shows tension building up until it reaches the top. Then it starts falling down. The title is Finding mum in this story there is a big story cline. There is a boy who loses his mother in a supermarket he looked everywhere for his mother but he could not find her so he thought hard very hard so he walked back to were he lost his mum and there she was. Did you see how the tension built up? In the beginning he felt a little bit worried in the middle he felt lonely and finally he found MUM ( at the end) he felt very happy and relieved. Orchestra - Peer Gynt

Today we went to hear 3 members of the Nelson Symphony Orchestra play for us. They played the clarinet, violin and oboe. You could break the clarinet into little pieces and put it in a box. It sounded sly. There was a big clarinet and a little one. The violin could play happy and scary music. Instead of using the bow you can pluck the strings. You can take the reed out of the oboe and it sounds like a duck call. If you blow it without a reed it sounds like just blowing. It is really hard to blow it ... you have to be at least 11 years old to learn. It plays refreshing and sleepy music.

David told us about a concert on Saturday for children. David dressed up as the King Troll. It looks very life-like, scary but funny.

Rocky Shore by Lukas

Here are some photos we took of "the rocky shore" in January (the day after Lukas turned 8!). This is a large red crab, and the other picture shows an octopus we found hiding in a tidal rock pool on the Great Ocean Road in South Australia. The octopus was amazing -- it floated right past all 6 of our family members while we were standing in the pool exploring! It was about 1.5 m long!! We hope you like them. Lukas and Nina-Marie (mum)

Our Rock Pool Creatures

We have bean using the combination key to design a Rocky Shore creature. We have been though a lot of trouble making these creatures. We have to get two rock pool creatures or a sea creature and combine the two to make one. We have done a t-chart on our creature about its features and why they have them.

LEARNZ FIELD TRIP

We have been on a Virtual Field Trip to Goat Island Marine Reserve. Our class couldn't actually go on the trip but we sent NCS Pooh Bear as our ambassador. We sent him e-mails. We watched videos and looked a pictures of the Marine Reserve. We have been thinking about the big question .... "What would the Rocky Shore be like if we didn't have any Marine Reserves?"

Swimming Sports

The swimming sports was really exciting for Kahikatea syndicate because we got to do a lot of stuff in front of loads of people. There were lots of races and it was exciting because we won heaps of them! It was a bit cold in the pool but we could cope with it. Hamish was so fast he did a length of the pool in ten seconds! It was so awsome at the piggy-back race becauce Lachlan was my pantner and he was really good! The swimming sports was a big blast.

Welcome Home Pooh Bear

We have just opened up the package that Pooh Bear travelled home in. He was very occupied reading the newsletters that Mike had sent with him but he really wanted to get out of the package so he could see if we had any honey for him. We are pleased to have him back from his adventure.
